Inherit The Wind Essay -- essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Inherit the Wind, a play written by Jerome Lawrence, and Robert E. Lee, is one of the greatest and most controversial plays of its time. It was written at a time of scientific revolution to benefit people of the day and in the future, however, people of the day had a hard time accepting new ideas. It is societies unwillingness to change, and accept new ideas that create racism, and hate groups of today. This unwillingness is one of the major themes of this play. This thesis will be further explained, and supported by such literary elements, as setting, and character throughout the essay.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The first example of the people’s unwillingness to accept new ideas, such as Darwinian theory, is towards the beginning of the book when both sides of the prosecution arrive in Hillsboro. The town is parading up and down the streets chanting, â€Å"give me that old time religion†, and â€Å"down with Darwin†. The irony of this is that none of them have read Darwin’s book, for example, when E.K. Hornbeck was talking to Eliza, the Bible salesman. Eliza said, that he, â€Å"can’t neither read nor write†, so he could not have read Darwin’s book, but yet he is calling Hornbeck a â€Å"sinner, and â€Å"evil-utionist† for believing in its ideas. None of the town’s people on Mr. Brady’s side of the trial have read, The Evolution of Species, not even Mr.Brady himself. Nevertheless, they will not accept the idea or take it into consideration. It is the town’s peopl...

The War Between The Classes :: essays research papers fc

The War Between the Classes By (Your Name Here) The War Between the Classes is an excellent book written by Gloria D. Miklowitz. It is about a high-school class that plays the â€Å"Color Game†. In the game, there are four social classes which are represented by armbands: Blues – highest, richest; Dark Greens – upper-middle class, semi-rich; Light Greens – lower-middle class, semi-poor; Oranges – lowest class, very poor. To further split up the classes, there are the superior sex, Teks(females), and the inferior sex, No-Teks(males). There are also groups of Color Game â€Å"policemen†, which are older students who played the game in previous years. They record the students’ activities, and record any good or bad behavior, which can result in demotions or promotions. The Color Game runs like this: Lower classes, or No-Teks, must bow when they meet eyes with a higher class, or Tek. Higher classes can give orders to lower classes. Lower c lasses may not speak to a higher class unless spoken to, and can only reply in a short answer. You must have your armband and journal with you at all times. The main character in this book is Emiko â€Å"Amy† Sumoto. She comes from a Japanese family, and her parents believe she should keep the family going by marrying a Japanese boy. Instead, she is interested in a rich, white boy names Adam, which is the opposite of her. In the Color Game, all the Latinos in the class turn out to be high colors, and rich whites end up as lower colors, which are all planned out by their teacher. Although she is used to being treated as a lower person in real life, along with the rest of the Latinos, she doesn’t feel right with the power she has, being one of the most powerful people in the class. She decides to try and unite all the colors to an equal rank. After being demoted from Blue to Orange with Adam, she plans to post â€Å"Unite All Colors† posters all over the school, a nd make quad-colro armbands for all students to wear. Finally she succeeds in doing this, and unites the whole school as one. My favorite part of this book is when Amy and her friend Juan sneak into the school at night and post the posters all over the school. I like this part because it sounds very fun to do, and it’s the only actual action part or the book.

Nursing and Early Childhood Education Essay

Since as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a doctor. I wanted to â€Å"fix† people when they were sick and make them feel better. I am also a very compassionate person and friends and family know they can always come to me if they have something going on. My main goal in life, if I never accomplish anything else, is to make a difference, for the better, in someone’s life. I think by being a nurse I have a good chance of completing my life goal. I started out wanting to be a doctor since I was about 5 years old. I was always in  Ã¢â‚¬Å"advanced† classes all throughout grade school and into high school. I even started college with majoring in chemical engineering with the pre-med option. I was not at all interested in chemical engineering but had been told it would look better on my application into medical school if I had a harder major. By the spring I had changed my mind and my major was now early childhood education. It was such a huge change that I basically only realized I had no idea what I wanted to do. I ended taking some time off school to work and figure things out with what I wanted to be  since I couldn’t keep saying I would when I grew up because it reality I was a grown up. I went to school one summer and got CLEET certified to be a security guard and never ended up actually working in that field because the interest just wasn’t there. Then two years ago I heard how easy it is to get a job if you have some kind of medical license or certificate and that you will always have a job since they are in such high demand. I then decided to go to school to be a certified nurse aide (CNA). I immediate got a job working in a nursing home after I got my CNA  license and realized it was true about how easy it was to find a job. I wasn’t to fond of the atmosphere in a nursing home but I loved my job. I loved being able to help those people with Andrea Whisman September 6, 2014 Intro to Nursing tasks they weren’t able to do themselves. That’s when I decided to go to nursing school instead of being a CNA for the rest of my life (It wasn’t a liveable wage by any means). I did a year of an associate program of nursing school and I still very much loved it but it was not a good school at all. That is when I found SNU and started looking into their program. As soon as I stepped onto campus I knew this is where I wanted to continue my journey. Part of me still wants to go to medical school and become a doctor but I also want to complete something first. I can’t keep running from being a grown up by not making a career choice. I plan to complete nursing school and take the extra classes I need to even apply to medical school that way I will still have my bachelor’s degree and can start working but if I do decide to apply to medical school I can.

Petrie Electronics

Reworking is a natural part of being the project manager of an object- oriented analysis and design project and an integral part of its development process. He also understood the importance of looking into which strategies helped to make the project a success by focusing on the busiest store in Irvine as a previous iteration. Jim also showed eagerness and interest in the project by compromising with his personal preferences for the benefit of the project.By personally investing his own time he will prove to be a leader and stimulate a similar motivation from other team members. This proves that Jim assesses the qualities of a good project manager. To further show that he is a good project manager Jim should show an understanding towards the fact that Ella is also under pressure from her supervisors to make the project a success. She may have a lot riding on the project or may have the competition looking to see where any flaws in her company lies.Jim should portray confidence in his abilities to succeed with the project. By being flexible to work with Ell's plan but remaining firm in his other team member selections, it shows his faith in his ability to create a successful team and gives off the mage that he knows what is necessary for the project to be a success. As Ella is implying that Bob seems to understand the importance of the project more so than Jim, it is important that he explains and demonstrates through his actions that he understands the importance of the project to her as well.Jim should also not show any trepidation about having almost an in-house spy reporting on all his actions and behaviors back to the COO. To deal with a busy team member such as Juanita Lopez he can have her send in times that would work best for her and arrange team meetings so that the others could omelet a majority of their portions during meetings when she is not available. Then during times when she is available they can convene and put their separate portions together and iron out any kinks they find in the strategies.Jim can also organize video conferences if it proves that distance or scheduling times for meetings in one place makes it difficult to meet. Jim could also ask for Juanita to delegate the smaller and simpler tasks to other staff members at the Irvine store so that she could dedicate more time for the project. Another possible suggestion is for them to alternate their meetings eased on Junta's days off with proper compensation for her time (if the project is not an addition to her regular paycheck). As the project manager Jim must first set define the project as a set of components. After that the team can work together to analyze the components and implement the most difficult ones first. Jim should avoid planning the project out to the minutest detail because the plan can easily change. Each iteration should be taken one at a time for a previously set period of time until the best possible system is formed. To complete the project initiation Jim must next establish a legislation with the customer. By building strong customer relations business has a better chance of flourishing. The next step would be to establish the project initiation plan. Then Jim would need to establish management procedures and establish the project management environment and a project workbook. Last but not least it is necessary for Jim to develop the project charter. Only after these six components are completed can Jim complete the initiation phase. One team communication method that Jim can use is to send minutes of the meetings after they have met to summarize the topics discussed and decisions that were made. This can be used as a way to inform all team members of their progress and can also act a permanent record as well.A con would be that it is very formal and so it would not be used to facilitate interdisciplinary interactions. Another communication method that can be used is to have regular meetings. This would allow the team to work together to resolve issues but can also range in formality from medium to high. Teams can also use status reports when they need to report to their supervisors about the project's progress. Status reports are highly formal and are used to inform others of progress. In order o have a concrete idea of each team member's responsibilities specification documents can be used. These are highly formal and are used not only to inform team members of their responsibilities but also as a permanent record of tasks to be completed. Last but not least teams can also use casual brown bag lunches to have a relaxed discussion about the progress the team is making in the project and to discuss recommendations for the team to work better together. It would not only help inform team members of where they stand in the project but also promote a more relaxed atmosphere for them to work together.

Reading and Writing Skill Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Reading and Writing Skill - Essay Example The author Jiayan NI wrote all the articles. Analysis of "sense and sensibility" Jane Austin-Question 1 We see two fundamental aims of moral psychology or moral philosophy. Many hold values that they often claim to be sacred. Life in most religions and in many ethical systems hold that "life" is held scared. Tetlocks in 1986 said that concept of value pluralism that "life", can hold a value of pluralism. The world in general, does not allow human beings to hold a single principle as sacred. Instead, "life" is full of difficult choices that demand that we balance one value against another. In the case of" sense and sensibility," Jane Austin shows the value of money over love and love over money (Tetlock, 1986). This considered as a cause and effect analysis. The movie keeps the attention of the audience through the representation of the heroin. Jiayan NI does not explore the moral psychology or moral philosophy of the argument. Analysis of glamour plot "pride and prejudice"-Question 2 This is another classic love story in American Literature by Jane Austin. Psychologists have found that implicit attitudes are a predictor for certain human behaviour. Implicitly there are stereotypes predicted through discrimination against female's job applicants as shown in the Rudman and Boride study done in 1995 (Rudman, 1995). Another study done by Rudman and Glick in 2001 found that study participants who help strongly imply that attitudes connecting women with communal traits are common for the example women being more helpful while men are more agnostic (Rudman, 2001). Researchers have noted a societal shift over the last few decades from old-fashion racism to modern racism. Old fashion racism is explicit and often accompanied by hostility. Implicit attitudes are more likely to occur when decision makers are using implicit attitudes instead of thinking. This also indicates that themes are most often the most explored ideas in literary work. There seems to continue a theme of love, reputation, and class. Motifs in a novel are a literary structure that continues to show up in the writings. Jane Austin shows this in the writing of the courtship between Darcy and Elizabeth and Bingley and Jane. Nearly every scene in the novel takes place indoors. This is significant, the reason that changes the scenes. Austin uses argument and persuasion through-out the read. NI states in the blog that in18th century histories that it was traditional to focus on marrying their children to the rich. We may know this tactic as traditional rhetoric to refer to this piece as means to persuade the reading audience (Sharkey, 2004). Social Journal in-The Sydney Morning Herald-Question 3 Related to society and culture in an Australian newspaper, this article appears in the paper to uncover different viewpoints and issues that appear in our society and the culture. This Analysis's is the presentation of facts as the author Jiayan NI sees them. NI uses a combination of deductive a nd inductive or formal and informal reasoning in the articles that he writes for the paper. Inductive and deductive reasoning gives the reason why he holds a particular view. Ni uses examples to his pieces that logically serve to lead to his paragraphs that contain explanations, comparisons, definitions and descriptions of the subject he is writing about (Sharkey, 2004). Carbon Tax in the Sydney newspaper-Question 4 Reported in the Sydney paper on May 16, 2011, the issue of Carbon Tax seems to be a hot topic. This case of carbon tax as written by NI contains logical fallacies. Fallacy in his case is often a minor one. However, NI assumes this tax will lead to the loss of jobs. Through this assumption, he believes that it will lend

The Hazards of taking childeren out to eat Essay

The Hazards of taking childeren out to eat - Essay Example McDonalds, for example, has a clown as its mascot, Ronald McDonald. It has playgrounds for children and special toys that come with its food. Given a choice, children will clamour to go to these special places. The food they will eat there, unfortunately, will not be good for them. These restaurants know that if they can lure children into their restaurants they will get money from the parents. Pandering to children is a good business model for many restaurants. Additionally, it is important to note that children like sugar and junk food. These restaurants ensure that they have these things on their menus. This food is not good for children. Parents who do not take their children out to eat have much more control over their childrens diets. They can cook with fresh food and will know exactly what is in each meal. They can avoid sugary and fat foods and make sure that their children are eating properly. Food packed with vitamins and nutrients notably helped boost mental performance as youngsters got older, the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health reports. Researchers said toddlers diets could change IQ levels later in childhood, even if eating habits improve with age. "This suggests that any cognitive/behavioural effects relating to eating habits in early childhood may well persist into later childhood, despite any subsequent changes to dietary intake," the authors wrote (Guardian). The fix is in. Many fast food restaurants have very low standards when it comes to food, and yet their food is incredibly attractive to children. We have to remember just how hazardous this kind of food is to childrens health. As one report recently put it: â€Å"One out of three children will come down with diabetes. One out of five children now has hypertension. Doctors are seeing children as young as 2 and 3 years old with the beginnings of heart disease† (Ringle). Nothing is more
